🌍 DigitaLLeather at Istanbul Development Dialogues 2025
– Circular economy, regulation and financing through the lens of industrial innovation
Istanbul Development Dialogues 2025 (IDD2025) is a high level international platform organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), designed to bring together policymakers, financial institutions, development organizations, academia and innovators to address key global development challenges.
The purpose of IDD2025 is to create an open and structured dialogue between public institutions, finance, civil society and the private sector, with a strong focus on sustainability, innovation and economic transformation. Participants include representatives of governments, development banks, commercial financial institutions, international organizations, non governmental organizations and technology driven companies from different regions.
🤝 Invitation by UNDP Türkiye and representation of DigitaLLeather
As part of IDD2025, UNDP Türkiye invited Dr. Sc. Nikola Banduka, CEO & Founder of DigitaLLeather, to present the company and its industrial innovation focused on digital inspection and optimization of industrial leather.
DigitaLLeather develops advanced digital solutions for industrial environments, addressing material efficiency, quality control and risk reduction within the leather value chain. The solution was created in close cooperation with industry, targeting real production challenges and supporting circular economy principles through better utilization of resources and reduced waste.
🧠 Session focus Beyond Recycling Circularity Shaping Tomorrow’s Economies
Participation continued within Session 8 Beyond Recycling Circularity Shaping Tomorrow’s Economies, where Dr. Sc. Nikola Banduka, CEO & Founder, took part as a panelist and discussion participant in the segment dedicated to regulatory frameworks and financing for the circular economy.
The session gathered a diverse group of contributors, including representatives of government institutions, experts from banks and financial mechanisms, members of international and local non governmental organizations, and innovators developing circular solutions across different industries.
During the discussion, three key challenges from the perspective of a circular DeepTech startup were highlighted.
The first challenge was access to the market and industrial partners. Even when a solution is developed specifically for a target industry, such as industrial leather processing, reaching companies and operating environments can be difficult due to regulatory complexity, conservative production settings and perceived operational risk.
The second challenge was early stage financing. The development of a circular industrial solution required long periods of bootstrapping. Pre seed startups without traction often face a structural financing gap, where banks are not prepared to engage and investors expect validation that is difficult to achieve without initial capital.
The third challenge was technology maturity. At the start of development, key technologies such as AI based computer vision and industrial camera systems were at a significantly lower level of technological readiness. Building a circular solution under such conditions meant developing alongside the technology itself.
🌐 From dialogue to systemic impact
The discussion clearly showed that circular economy innovation cannot rely on technology alone. It requires aligned regulation, patient and risk aware financing mechanisms, and continuous dialogue between public institutions, finance, civil society and innovators.
For DigitaLLeather, participation in IDD2025 represented an important opportunity to contribute practical industry insights to a global policy and development discussion, while at the same time strengthening the connection between innovation, regulation and sustainable industrial growth.
